Join us for a traditional Holy Eucharist service at 8:00am. The nature of this service will be contemplative and without music. All are welcome. On Sunday, May 28, we celebrate the birth of the church on the Feast of Pentecost, recalling the day that the twelve Apostles received the Holy Spirit from God following Jesus’ resurrection and ascension into heaven. The name “Pentecost” comes from the Greek word pentékosté meaning “fiftieth,” as Jews from all over were gathered in Jerusalem for the Feast of Shavuot which takes place 7 weeks (50 days) after Passover. (You can read the Biblical account of Pentecost in Acts 2:1-41). You are encouraged to wear red on this day, as it is the liturgical color for Pentecost and recalls the “tongues of flame” by which the Holy Spirit descended on the Apostles at the first Pentecost. Alternately, you are also welcome to wear your traditional cultural clothing, or whatever will best help you celebrate the Spirit of Pentecost! You are also invited to celebrate this day of calling and witness “from every nation, tribe, people and language” recounted in Acts 2 and Revelation 7 by sharing a favorite dish from your own cultural heritage or family background at our special Pentecost Potluck after the 10:30 am service. All are welcome!
