What To Expect

A typical Alpha

Alpha runs in cafés, churches, universities, homes —you name it. No two Alphas look the same, but they generally have three key things in common: food, a talk and good conversation.

Food

Whether it’s a group of friends gathered around a kitchen table, or a quick catch-up over coffee and cake, food has a way of bringing people together. It’s no different at Alpha. We start with food, because it’s a great way to encourage community and get to know each other.

Talk

The talks are designed to engage and inspire conversation. Generally thirty minutes long, they can be given as a live talk or played as a video. They explore the big issues around faith and unpack the basics of Christianity, addressing questions such as Who is Jesus? and How can we have faith?

Watch a talk

Discussion

Probably the most important part of any Alpha: the chance to share thoughts and ideas on the topic, and simply discuss it in a small group. There’s no obligation to say anything. And there’s nothing you can’t say. It’s an opportunity to hear from others and contribute your own perspective in an honest, friendly and open environment.

ST. David's Original covid-19 protocol

As Christians, we are called to have faith and courage as we face the challenging circumstances of the present, not giving in to fear but trusting in a God who is All-Loving, All-Mighty, and Always Present with us no matter what we face.

As we are also citizens of this wonderful country, we all need to pay attention to the guidance of our leaders and other government officials, whether we are asked to stay at home, practice social distancing, or abide by other policies meant to provide for the welfare of all. Together, in unity, we can all prevail through this challenging situation.

At St. David's, we are currently maintaining the following policies:

  • We strongly encourage everyone to abide by the guidelines set forth in the current Stay at Home Order from Los Angeles County. It is important to protect not only your own health and safety and that of your family, but to be mindful about the risk for each and every person in our communities and across the nation.
  • We are offering a Sunday service LiveStream at 10:00am via our website and Facebook, so that none of us needs to miss worshiping the Lord. We can still do this together, and even look to a more missional focus by inviting neighbors, family members, and friends anywhere in the world to join us via their computer, tablet, or smartphone. No special sign-up will be required. The service will include music, Scripture readings, sermon, prayers, and announcements as necessary.
  • In keeping with County and State COVID-19 Orders. all our Bible Study classes, prayer groups, and other ministries are meeting via Zoom teleconference. We will continue to distribute food and other necessary items to the Family Promise Ministry during our scheduled weeks as a host congregation, while the families themselves are lodged in hotels by Family Promise of the Verdugos.
  • Our staff will all be working from home, but our office hours will remain the same, 8:00am-5:00pm Monday-Friday. If you need to contact our office by phone, please continue to call us at (818) 846-8633 and leave us a message. You can use the contact form on this website to send us an email, or you can message us directly at the following email addresses:     FrAstor@stdavidsanglican.org,  Janet.Palmer@stdavidsanglican.org, or  Tanya.Oldson@stdavidsanglican.org.
  •
  • For additional information and instructions for making online donations and pledges, please visit our GIVING section.

We will continue to post updates as often as possible, and keep each one of you in our prayers. Our trust is in God, our hope is in Him, and our lives are wrapped up in who He is and what He has promised to us through His Son, Jesus Christ. So we say be faithful! Be of good courage! Be persevering in prayer and in works of mercy toward those who need mercy. Serve one another, and love your neighbors and those who may find themselves in need.  Shine brightly and let your light shine to all in faith. God bless you.

Welcome FR. astor

our new assistant rector

This past June, Fr. Jose announced that our Vestry had called the Rev. Dcn. Astor Yelangueuzian to fill the position of Rector upon Fr. Jose's retirement at the end of 2020, and to serve as Assistant Rector until the transition is complete.

As a 30-year resident of Los Angeles, Fr. Astor has a great love for this city and is extremely passionate about sharing the good news of Jesus with his community. Soon after completing his ThM degree in New Testament studies from Princeton Theological Seminary, he took up Holy Orders and was ordained to the Deaconate in 2018, and then to the Priesthood on August 29 of this year. He and his lovely wife, Narineh, are the blessed parents of two sons, Sebastian and John-Paul.

On Sunday, August 2, Fr. Astor shared his personal testimony during our 10am Service.  (See the Video HERE or listen to the Audio HERE.)  We continue to extend a warm welcome to the Yelangueuzian family and look forward to hearing more from Fr. Astor in the coming weeks!

Please allow me to be the first one to welcome you to St. David’s. We are very conscious of the fact that one of the reasons for which we exist is to serve you and we commit ourselves to such a calling.  As you search through this site you will become fairly familiar with our Church and our ministries, but the true spirit and personality of St. David’s can only be known and felt as you visit our Church. You will find some of the friendliest and most committed people anywhere. You will feel and know the love of God among our members, so we invite you to come and worship with us. In the mean time, please let us know how we might serve you. If you have questions about any of our ministries or the Scriptures or the Christian faith, please do not hesitate to ask us. We want to be available to you. Thank you for visiting our church through this site. We pray the Lord’s blessings upon you.

On Sunday, December 27, at 10am St. David’s Church will have an outside worship service in the parking lot of the Burbank Seventh-day Adventist Church where we normally worship (710 S. Glenoaks Blvd, Burbank CA 91502).

CLICK HERE TO READ THE FULL PROTOCOL

and DIRECTIONS for this Sunday's outdoor service.

This will be Fr. Jose's last Sunday preaching and celebrating the Holy Eucharist as the Senior Rector/Priest at St. David's (not his last as a member/visiting Priest) before he retires, and we wanted to make sure we made it possible for us to be there to celebrate this day with him and his family. We made this decision with a great deal of thought, deliberation, and prayer.

The service will also be livestreamed for all those who cannot attend or do not feel comfortable gathering in person at this time. To participate in the livestream worship, you can visit the Media Page here on our website, or you can join us on facebook.com/SaintDavidsAnglican.
